Boat electronic, which one would you suggest ?
I have a 2007 20ft angler bay boat. I spend a lot of time out on the water mainly doing inshore fishing out in flamingo and I have a small 5 in Humminbird Gps/fishfinder . i want to do an upgrade on my electronics should i go with Humminbird 997c SI Combo NVB or Lowrance HDS-8 Fishfinder/GPS Chartplotter?
In addition to RICSUDUK’s comments look at both company sites, I went with the Lowrance and the reason I did, I think I always have more fuel than I do.
Display of the lowrance is good, the mapping is great, built in GPS I couldn’t be happier with, and mine will also interface with the radar if I want to add that. What I really like is the add on gauges which will track my fuel, consumption and distance expected and oil tank
Hummingbird has the same stuff, the engine electronics will interface to my Merc, and put a lot of the functions in one spot. but the Hummingbird gauges are 800 a pop, and requires 2 for what I get out of the Lowrance in one and at a lot less cost, like around 160 range.
So if you are just looking for a fish finder, I like the idea of the 3d, but have no personal experience nor any of my friends. But I do like the additional electronics provided by the Lowrance, even if I am stuck with a conventional view of the bottom. I tried finding the Hummingbird stuff but could not, sorry about that wanted to show you both.
