How can I make Ice Fishing equipment.?
Need everything, poles, lures, and everything else.
Some noodle rods and jig sticks can be bought inexpensively. You can make an effective fish catching contraption with a soup can and a couple pieces of wood. Screw through the bottom of a can into a dowel rod or some other adequate hunk of wood about 2 1/2 to 3 feet long. Run a screw through a 1″x 2″ (or something similar), about 2 1/2′, into the dowel rod. Tie about 50′ or so of line (20 lb. braided)around the dowel rod just above the can and wind it around the can. Set this so that the can goes down the hole and through the ice. Use about a #6 or #8 treble hook and split shot about a foot and a half above it. Set this at the desired depth and wrap a rubber band around the line to keep it from falling off the can. When a fish grads the minnow it will pull the rubber band off and let the line go free. Some friends of mine have used this form of “tip up” when they wanted to leave it out for long periods of time. The disadvantage to this fishing method is you will not see when you get a bite unless you rig something up above the ice to indicate activity. Good luck!
